Established in 1933, we launched with the three-act production of Oh! Susannah / Making It Pay? on 7 April the same year, starting a community of like-minded individuals keen to entertain audiences. Over the intervening years, we have covered most genres, from the comedies of Alan Ayckbourn to the murder mysteries of Agatha Christie, including some dancing along the way in Stepping Out.
Currently, we have approximately 20 active members who work in a wide range of roles in their day-to-day lives, including Teaching, Management, Healthcare and IT. Supporting the active members are many more members, patrons and friends who donate their time and skills to help with the sets and provide front-of-house support during productions, all of which is invaluable.
A Watford-based group, we previously performed in St. Mary’s Hall and St. Michael’s Hall in Watford, before moving our performances to Henderson Hall, Abbots Langley, in 1983. However, rehearsals, auditions and play readings are still held twice weekly in Watford, where we welcome anyone interested in adding a little more drama to their lives!
If you would like to know when we are starting our next production, you can follow us through our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram updates, speak to a member of the society, or email us at players@thecentralians.co.uk.
